VTV3 is a Vietnamese television station operated and owned by government-owned Vietnam Television. Launched on 31 March 1996 as the country's first sports and entertainment integrated channel, its programs contained sporting events and entertainment-oriented programs including music, variety shows, leisure & lifestyles, nationally produced, as well as American and Asian series.

Broadcast history[]

  • VTV3 was broadcast by Vietnam Television for testing from June 1994 during the 1994 World Cup, with the remaining programs broadcasting at the same frequency range of VTV1 and VTV2. The original content of VTV3 at that time was Sports - Entertainment - Economic Information. From April 1995, the channel was broadcast on channel 6 in Hanoi with the broadcast time from 16:00 to 19:00.
  • VTV3 officially went on-air on 31 March 1996, and begin to be relayed nationwide via satellite on July that year. Also since the launch of the channel, VTV began to broadcast the English Premier League (EPL). This soccer tournament were continuously aired on VTV3 from then until 2011.
  • From 1 October 1997, VTV3 separated its frequency in Hanoi and Da Nang and aired in channel 22 UHF (Hanoi), channel 21 UHF (Da Nang) with nighttime programs. This also marked VTV3 become the second channel to air live the national evening news (Thời Sự) besides VTV1 at 19:00, which continuously transmitting until now.
  • The channel began to be relayed nationwide via satellite with the independent frequency on 31 March 1998.
  • Until 31 December 2001, the broadcasting times of VTV3 were expressing at these times followed:
    • From Monday to Friday: 12:00 to 24:00
    • Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 to 24:00
  • Beginning from 31 December 2001, VTV3 increased the broadcasting times as these followed:
    • From 31 December 2001 to 31 August 2006: 06:00 to 24:00
    • From 1 September 2006 to 18 March 2020 and from 1 May 2020 to present: 24 hours per day
  • Between 2013 - 2014, the manufacture department of VTV3 were split into two: the sports-producing crew were formed into separate department alongside with VTV1 sports team (Department for Sports Productions, Vietnamese: Ban Sản xuất các chương trình Thể thao or Ban Thể thao - Sports Department for short). The remaining VTV3 entertainment team was renamed Department for Entertainment Productions (Vietnamese: Ban Sản xuất các chương trình Giải trí)
  • Since 2015, most of VTV3 sports programs were moved to youth-oriented channel VTV6. In 2020, Nhịp đập 360 độ thể thao (Sports 360° - The Beat) - the morning sports bulletin - was transferred to VTV6, leaving the VTV3 channel broadcast entertainment-oriented programs, and transmitting sports programs during special occasions only. The bulletin was later relaunch in 2021 as Nhịp đập thể thao (Sports Beat), and beginning to broadcast on both VTV3 and VTV6 from 12 April 2021.
  • Between 19 March and 30 April 2020, as a safety precaution due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam, Vietnam Television temporarily suspended the overnight timeslot on VTV3, along with most VTV channels, and limited the broadcast time to 19 hours per day.

VTV3 HD[]

VTV3 became the first channel of VTV and the first commercial television channel in Vietnam to have an HD simulcast. VTV3 HD was soft-launched from 31 March 2013 to mark VTV3's 17th anniversary and was officially launched on 1 June 2013. Most programs broadcast by VTV3 since 2013 are in HDTV with a 16:9 picture format.

Right from its broadcast, VTV3 has paved the way for entertainment programs, copyrighted feature films, sports,] programs... to air on this channel. . Since the beginning of broadcasting with a duration of 18 hours/day, VTV3 began to upgrade the program's content, change some time frames, increase feature film frames, buy copyrights,... and especially appear every day. new gameshow series (especially Saturday morning, from mid-2004), attracting a large audience such as , , Southern water wave ,... parallel with previous programs that resonated: The Magic Hat, , Music game, [[Literary Journey] chemistry]], ... .In particular, at the beginning of 2005, VTV3 opened an additional 20:00 (now 20:30) frame from Monday to Friday to broadcast the program. entertainment program; feature films at 18:00 every day since late 2005 began to appear more than Asian films; Since the beginning of 2006, the gameshow, entertainment program has additional frames 21:00, 22:00 from Monday to Friday (currently 21:15 Saturday, Sunday) every week. Not only the actual gameshow, television, VTV3 also produces, cooperates and implements many great and unique programs of great significance, such as signal production, broadcasting of competitive sports. during the 2003 Southeast Asian Games of which Vietnam was the host. Since 2008, VTV3 began to change its appearance, focusing on improving the quality of the program, especially with the appearance of many novel game shows, increasing the playing time of feature-length films (typically Vietnam). In 2012, VTV3 continued to improve the content, changed the time frame, appeared many new programs in all directions, typically the program Morning Coffee, Weekend Morning Coffee, VTV3's Guests, Creative Viet Nam'. , SV 2012,... and competitions, big reality TV broadcast on weekends. Since 2014, strange-format comedy and entertainment reality shows and affiliate programs began to creep on VTV3, creating a new wave with domestic audiences such as Thank God, here you are, Idol. Bolero, Don't let the money fall... , at the same time, VTV3 channel also re-planned the weekend evening hours to create conditions for new programs to appear.


From the end of 2018 onwards, reality shows, competitions, comedy shows, and knowledge game shows (quiz shows) or shows with novel scripts like , Uncompromising, Vocal Battle Floor, , 5 magic golden rings, Overcoming the city of war,... emerged and quickly appeared in the channel's golden hour.
