Velika Hoča (Serbian Cyrillic: Велика Хоча, Albanian: Hoçë e Madhe) is a village in the municipality of Rahovec, in Kosovo.[a] It is one of the Serb enclaves in Kosovo.[citation needed]

Velika Hoča is situated in the historical region of Dukagjin is one of the oldest settlements. It was given as metochion by Stefan Nemanja to Hilandar in 1198–99 (Charter of Hilandar).[2]

History[]

On 25 May 1905 a clash occurred in the village between a group of 7 Serbian Chetniks and an Albanian mob from Orahovac, the battle resulted on heavy casualties on both sides with the Chetnik force annihilated.

The main economic activity of Velika Hoča is viniculture.

The Republic of Kosovo unilaterally declared independence on 17 February 2008. Serbia continues to claim it as part of its own sovereign territory. The two governments began to normalise relations in 2013, as part of the 2013 Brussels Agreement. Kosovo is currently recognized as an independent state by 97 out of the 193 United Nations member states. In total, 113 UN member states are said to have recognized Kosovo at some point, of which 15 later withdrew their recognition.
