Vernon Edgar Howard is a Texan politician who served in the Texas House of Representatives for District 1 from 1969-1975 and the Texas Senate for District 1 from 1979-1986. [1]
Early years[]
Howard was born on April 13, 1937 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Verna Elisha and Ruth Moryne Jackson. He attended Greenville High School and graduated in 1955. He later attended Abilene Christian College and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree.
Politics[]
He served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1969-1975. He served in the Texas Senate from 1979-1986. On April 1985, he announced his resignation. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
Family life[]
He married Jo Ann Jay in 1960. He became very successful in the business world with his wife. [8] [9]
As of April 14, 1969 they had 2 sons, they were Eric Howard (age 7) and Jay Howard (age 5). On August 24, 1969, Jo Ann Jay, Howards wife, gave birth to Edward Lee Howard, their third of 4 children, 8 months into Vernon's first term in office.[10] They had their fourth and final child, Kathryn, between April 1970 and April 1974. Death[]
He died on July 2, 1998 at the age of 61 of throat cancer. He was buried in the Texas State Cemetery at Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA. [13] [14]
