Vidyadhar Guruji Sayanna was an Indian politician, freedom fighter, Gandhian, social reformer, educationist, literateur, spiritualist and linguist.[1][2] He was a Member of 1962 Mysore Legislative Assembly (currently Karnataka Legislative Assembly) from Gurmitkal constituency.[3][4][5] He was nominated by Janata Dal as Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, on 2 October 1988 for the Term Year - (1988 - 1994).

Earlier life[]

Vidyadhar Guruji Sayanna actively participated in "Vande Mataram" movement staged all over the country during Nizam Administration in 1938. He completed his higher studies in Hindi medium at Lahore, British India (in present-day Lahore, Pakistan) from 1938 to 1942, he actively participated in "Quit India" movement under the leadership of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan against British and arrested by the Government of Hyderabad.

He served as Secretary, Sholapur City Nirvasaths Seva Samithi, Maharashtra. During 1946, he was Secretary at Gulbarga District Congress Committee. He was member, Municipality and Taluk Board, Yadagiri.

In 1962 he Elected to Legislative Assembly from Gurumitkal Legislative Assembly Constituency. In 1964 he actively participated in various capacities the Vice President, State Level Committee of Subhash Chandra Bose. From 1980 he was President of South India Hindi Prachar Sabha. He was Secretary All India Freedom Movement Committee. Hw was also Executive President, South India Freedom Fighters Conference and Nominated as Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, on 2 October 1988 (1988 - 1994)[6]

Personal life[]

Vidyadhar Guruji Sayanna was married to Savitadevi and the couple had four children which includes three sons, and one daughter.[1]

Vidyadhar Guruji was felicitated by District In-charge minister Baburao Chinchansur on the occasion of Hyderabad Karnataka Liberation day in 17th September 2015 in Yadgir, Karnataka.

Died[]

Vidyadhar Guruji Sayanna died in Kalaburagi at Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology Unit in Kalaburagi government hospital on 29 July 2017 (Saturday night). He was admitted to hospital following a massive heart attack on Friday. However, Mr Guruji failed to respond to treatment and died on Saturday night around 9.30 pm.[6]

Body to be donated[]

Vidyadhar Guruji Sayanna's body was shifted to the Hindi Prachar Sabha for Public viewing from Saturday night (29 July 2017) to till Sunday noon(30 July 2017). Peoples from different walks of life and Leaders of various political parties paid their last respects to Mr Guruji at the Hindi Prachar Sabha.

Guruji’s body was handed over to the Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College as per his wish and be embalmed and used for teaching medical students.[1]
