Vincenzo Alberto Annese (born 22 September 1984 in Bisceglie) is an Italian association football manager and former player who currently is the head coach of Gokulam Kerala FC in the I-League.
Annese is a UEFA Pro Licence coach, which allows him to coach football at the highest levels. He had experiences as youth coach in Italian academies and clubs (mostly affiliated to big Italian teams) and international experience as a professional head coach for senior teams.
Career[]
Annese began his football career as a central midfielder for Venezia F.C./s young football team. It was in Serie A (from 1999 to 2001). He played in A.S. Martina Franca 1947 (from 2001 to 2002), Noicàttaro Termoli (from 2002 to 2003) and A.S.D. Leonessa Altamura (from 2003 to 2004).[1]
Early life[]
Annese wanted to follow in his father's footsteps an ex Football player in Molfetta Sportiva and joined the Belenenses youth team. At age 23 he chose to focus on becoming a Football coach, attended the Higher Institute of Physical Education (ISEF) at the Università degli Studi di Foggia and in 2006 got his second degree at the University of Verona, focussing on the adaptation of sports to disabled people. In 2008, Annese sought to extend his school experience to the role of coach in football by mixing the coaching GROW model with motivational and psychological techniques.
Coaching career[]
Annese started his professional head coaching career in S.S. Fidelis Andria 1928 youth team (from 2010 to 2012). He was promoted as coaching staff in the Italian third division 2012–13 Lega Pro Prima Divisione afterwards continuing in Foggia Calcio 2013–14 Lega Pro Prima Divisione. Since then Annese was Head Coach in many countries at Top Level, including Latvia, Estonia, Ghana, Palestine, Indonesia Kosovo and Armenia. He was a tactical/technical coach of junior national teams (under 14, 15, 16, 17, 19) in Football Federation of Armenia.[2]
He achieved the qualification to become a teacher in physical education for primary school, secondary school and university. He worked as a teacher with Italian National Olympic Committee in 2013 and as an instructor in swimming pool in Molfetta and as personal trainer.
Bechem United[]
In January 2017, the Ghanaian Premier League club Bechem United F.C. appointed Annese as their 2017–18 season Manager.
Under Annese, Bechem United played against MC Alger in the 2017, Africa's secondary club competition organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).[3]
Ahli Al-Khaleel[]
On July 25, 2017, Annese signed a one-year contract and became the new first-team head coach of Palestine Premier League Ahli Al-Khaleel for the 2017–18 season.
PSIS Semarang[]
On March 24, 2018, Annese was engaged by PSIS Semarang and became the new first-team head coach for the 2018 season.[4]
Football Federation of Belize[]
On June 17, 2019, Annese signed a one-year contract with Belize national football team and became the new first-national team head coach for the Football Federation of Belize. Coach Annese with Belize became to near to have a historic result for the country.[5]
Gokulam Kerala FC[]
On August 19, 2020, Annese signed a contract for session 2020/21 with Gokulam Kerala FC in Indian professional football club based in Calicut, Kerala. Annese became the first Italian Coach in the team history of Gokulam Kerala FC.[6]
Under his coaching, Gokulam Kerala FC was crowned champions of the I-League with 29 points in 15 games and sealed their berth at the 2022 AFC Cup group stage.[7][8]
