Vladas Braziūnas
Vladas Braziūnas (born February 17, 1952) is a Lithuanian poet and translator.[1] He has written/translated nine books. He is a member of the Lithuanian Writers' Union[2] and the Lithuanian PEN Center and was on the board of experts of the 2007 Druskininkai Poetic Fall.[3] In 1983 he received the Zigmas Gėlė prize for the best poetry debut for a book of poems he wrote nine years prior which only received permission to be published at that time due to a controversy alluding to its "ideological and artistic immaturity."[4]
Braziūnas was featured in a Lithuanian documentary movie called ‘Closer to the Land Beyond the River' (trsl).[5]
Honors and awards[]
He is an honorary Pasvalys district citizen[6] and has received various awards including:
- 1998: Salomėja Nėris for his book Užkalinėti
- 2002: Taras Sevchenko Fund Award for Ukrainian poetry translation work at the Republic of Lithuanian President's Chancellary on the 750th anniversary of the Lithuanian state[7][8]
- 2004: Jotvingiai Prize for Būtasis nebaigtinis/Imparfait
- 2005: Vilencia Crystal Globe Award[9]
- 2013: Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts (for his poetic revelations)[10]
- 2017: Baltic Assembly Prize for Literature, the Arts and Science (in the category of Literature).[11]
