Vrithakrithiyilulla Chathuram (transl. A Minor Inconvenience) is a 2019 Indian Malayalam-language black comedy-drama film directed by Krishand R K.[2] The film follows the story of an introvert Manilal Ramachandran and his reactions to the death of his father.

Vrithakrithiyilulla Chathuram had its world premiere at the 24th International Film Festival of Kerala where it was screened in the International Competition Section.[3][4][5][6] The only other Malayalam film to make it to this section in the same year was Jallikattu a film by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The film was also in FIPRESCI List of 40 Indian films.[7][better source needed]

Plot[]

Manilal Ramachandran is an introvert and a socially inept person. He works in Seoul , South Korea. As he is busy preparing for an interview for promotion he gets the news of his father's demise. The sudden news of his father's death did not conjure anything ‘usual’ in him. He wasn't sad, or nostalgic. He was miffed. It was an inconvenience, irksome. He was faced with distortions in his inflexible adherence to routine life. He returns to his native to find that his father's death is not about ordinary departure but leftover inconveniences.[8]

In his hometown Thiruvananthapuram he has to deal with his relatives and resident association members. Everyone immediately is trying to put him in a loop of chores where he has to go through nightmarish social responsibilities. To escape from these responsibilities Mani cycles away only to confront worse scenarios and eventually make a tryst with grief.
