Vyacheslav Konstantinovich Kim (born June 12, 1969, in Almaty, Kazakhstan) is an economist and financier, co-founder and chairman of the Board of Directors at , and President of the Kazakhstan National Taekwondo Federation.

Since 2020 he is one of the top five most influential and richest businessmen of Kazakhstan.[1]

Education[]

Vyacheslav Kim graduated from the Republican Physics and Mathematics School in 1996.[2] In 1998, he got a degree in Finances and Economy from the Kazakh National Pedagogical University.[3]

In 1987–1989, Kim did military service in the USSR Armed Forces.[4]

Early career[]

In 1990, he was a co-founder of Konovalov’s Ophthalmology Clinic[5] and he became one of the founders and owners of the Planet of Electronics Network of Stores in 1993.[6]

In 2003–2004, he took the position of chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Kazakhstan Association of Manufacturers and Equipment[7] and then he was the president of Asia Technics Group JSC for a year.[8]

In 2004–2006, Vyacheslav Kim was the adviser to the Minister of Economy and Budget Planning of Kazakhstan.[9] At the same time in 2005–2006, he worked as a Managing Director of Economics at Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC.[10]

Kaspi.kz[]

In 2002–2006, Kim was a shareholder and a member of the Board of Directors at Bank Kaspiyskiy JSC.[11] In 2006, he became the largest shareholder and chairman of the Board of Directors at Bank Kaspiyskiy JSC.[12]

Since 2008, he has been the chairman of the Board of Directors at Kaspi Bank JSC.[13] On December 05, 2018, he became the chairman of the Kaspi.kz Board of Directors.[14] In October 2020, the value of his stake in Kaspi.kz was estimated at $1.9 billion.[15][16]

On February 21, 2020, the president of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Vyacheslav Kim and the Chairman of the Kaspi.kz Board Mikhail Lomtadze to discuss the digital service development strategy.[17] On February 26, 2021, the President of Kazakhstan and the Kaspi.kz founders discussed the areas of joint activity of the state bodies and Kaspi.kz, including the development of non-cash payments in Kazakhstan.[18]

Other projects[]

Since 2013, Kim has been a co-owner of Kolesa Group[19] and he became a co-owner of the Alseco Company in 2015.[20]

In 2016–2019, he was a member of the Board of Directors and Independent Director of Group of Companies Allur JSC.[21]

In 2017–2019, Kim was a co-owner of the Magnum Retail Chain.[22] Since 2019, he has been the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Magnum Retail Chain.[23]

In 2021 Kim became an Independent Director on the Board of Directors of the National Welfare Fund "Samruk-Kazyna".[24][25]

Social activity[]

On November 11, 2013, Vyacheslav Kim became the president of the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Federation.[26]

In 2016–2019, he was the president of the Kazakhstan Kendo and Iaido Federation.[27]

Wealth[]

Since 2002, Vyacheslav Kim has been included in the list of the richest people in Kazakhstan by Forbes Kazakhstan.[28] In 2021, he entered the Forbes global list of billionaires, taking 925th place.[29]

Due to protests in Kazakhstan in January 2022, became $1.4 billion poorer, as Kaspi’s shares fell 30% from $118 on January 4 to $87 on January 6.[30]
