The 2023 Day 1 is the upcoming second annual Day 1 professional wrestling pay-per-view and livestreaming event produced by WWE. It will be held for wrestlers from the promotion's Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. The event is scheduled to take place on January 1, 2023, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Production[]

Background[]

On January 1, 2022, the American professional wrestling promotion WWE held a New Year's Day event titled Day 1 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.[1][2] On July 29, 2022, it was announced that Day 1 would be held again at the same venue on January 1, 2023, thus establishing Day 1 as an annual New Year's Day event for WWE. In addition to airing on traditional pay-per-view worldwide, it will be available to livestream on Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network in international markets, and will feature wrestlers from the Raw and SmackDown brands.[3]

Storylines[]

The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WWE's writers on the Raw and SmackDown brands,[4][5] while storylines are produced on WWE's weekly television shows, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.[6]
