Wanjiku Muhia is a Kenyan politician. A former MP, she was elected to be a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (ELEA) in 2017.[1]
Life[]
Wanjiku Muhia is the former women's representative for Nyandarua.[1] She was elected as an MP for the Jubilee Party in the 2013 Kenyan general election, with 158,486 votes (66.7% of all votes cast).[2]
In 2017 there was dispute over Wanjiku's renomination as the Jubilee Party women's representative for Nyandarua. Faith Wairimu Gitau initially received the certificate, winning 29,589 votes against Wanjiku's 7,946. However, Wanjiku claimed there had been procedural irregularities, so that Wairimu's nomination had not been free and fair. A tribunal found in Wanjiku's favour, and gave her the certificate. One person was shot dead and another injured during 13 May protests against the tribunal's decision. The High Court overturned the tribunal's decision, and returned the certificate to Wairimu.[3]
In December 2017 the Jubilee Party nominated Wanjiku for the East African Legislative Assembly. She secured her place on the ELEA with 180 votes.[1]
