Watu Gunung

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Watu Gunung was a king in the mythology of the Indonesian island of Java, who married his own mother, echoing the story of Oedipus in Greek mythology. According to legend, Watu Gunung was the son of King Palindriya of Gilingwesi and Dewi Sinta. One day, when his mother scolded him for troubling her, he became upset and went to live in another kingdom. After he grew up,he defeated the king of that kingdom and took the throne. He then invaded Gilingwesi in order to marry the beautiful wives of king Palindriya, not knowing that Palindriya was his father. He then married his mother, Dewi Sinta, and his aunt/stepmother, Dewi Landep. He had 27 sons.[1]
