William Wake (governor)

William Wake (died 1750) was the governor of Bombay for the English East India Company from 26 November 1742 to 17 November 1750. Father of Margaret Wake Tryon, wife of William Tryon (8 June 1729 – 27 January 1788), who was the governor of the Province of North Carolina (1765–1771) and the Province of New York (1771–1780).

Wake died in 1750 in South Africa during his return to England. His wife Elizabeth was the daughter of Fountain Elwin of Thurning, Norfolk. She died in 1759 and is buried there, where there are memorials to them both.[1]
