Works Constitution Act
The Works Constitution Act (German: Betriebsverfassungsgesetz), abbreviated BetrVG, is a German federal law governing the right of employees to form a works council.[1]
History[]
- 1920 The (Works Council Act) mandated consultative bodies for workers in businesses with more than 20 employees.
- The first iteration of the Works Constitution Act was passed on 11 October 1952 and was initially opposed by trade unions.[2]
- 1972 The Betriebsverfassungsgesetz was updated and reissued.
- 2001 The Betriebsverfassungsgesetz was significantly strengthened right of workers.
