Yamaha YFZ450

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yamaha YFZ450 is a four-stroke motocross bike manufactured by Yamaha Motor Company, introduced for the 2004 model year.[1] By the end of the 2004 ATV racing season, three of the four National Championships were won by riders riding the YFZ450: Keith Little, Brandon and Bill Ballance and Brett Oakley including John Brown.[2]

2004 & 2005 models were 439cc due to AMA/ATVA rules. Carbureted and 46 inches wide

2006-2009 Engine displacement increased to 449cc with AMA/ATVA rule change. Round house swingarm added for more reliable and easier chain adjustment.

2009 saw the introduction of the YFZ450R. All new model from the ground up, fuel injected, 50 inches wide, long travel suspension, higher performance with aluminum steel frame hybrid. Front end geometry greatly changed from the YFZ450 allowing for better cornering.

2010 saw the discontinuation of the YFZ450 (2009 being it's last year) and it's full time replacement being the YFZ450R

2012 To go along with the YFZ450R a carbureted stripped down version of the 2006 YFZ450 model was introduced. It had base shocks, non FCR carburetor and was a price point machine. It's production run ended the same year due to lack of interest.

2014 saw the addition of the slipper clutch to the YFZ450R

As of 2022 the YFZ450R remains in production.
