Introduction[]

Yamini Reddy (born in 1982) is a Kuchipudi dancer, teacher, choreographer, and the Director of Natya Tarangini, a school dedicated to the teaching of Kuchipudi. She is one of the leading Kuchipudi practitioners in India today and has toured across the globe with her solo performances and productions.

Early life[]

Born to the legendary Kuchipudi exponents, Dr. Raja and Radha Reddy, she was initiated into the dance form at a very tender age. She trained in the art form under her parents, imbibing the individual aspects of their dance form and creating the perfect confluence of tandava and lasya, the critical elements of any Kuchipudi performance. She began her career as a young star of the Kuchipudi firmament, stepping into the spotlight at the age of 3. Since then, she has been traversing stages across the globe, performing at prestigious venues and exquisite locations.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Hons) from the prestigious Lady Sriram College, New Delhi, and is a postgraduate in International Business from Fore School, New Delhi. After shuttling through different options, Yamini decided to pursue dance as a profession immediately after her graduation.

Performing career[]

Yamini has toured the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, UAE and South East Asia extensively. The Mayor of Dublin presented her with the Golden Key to the city after watching her captivating Kuchipudi dance performance. Yamini was the first dancer ever to perform at the prestigious Wigmore Hall London in 2011. She also had a successful tour of Russia and East Europe, where she had the opportunity to perform for various Heads of State at the BRIC and SCO summit in 2009. She has presented her art before noted personalities like the President of Hungary, First Lady of Slovenia and The former President of India Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

Yamini's choreographic pursuits have always been well appreciated amidst critics and audiences. Her production, 'Harmony' along with modern dancer Leah Curtis from New York was well received by the audience and was invited to  perform at the prestigious Nishagandhi festival in Kerala.

She has also authored a research thesis titled, ‘Audience Development’ for the Performing Arts in India.

Personal life[]

Reddy is married and lives in Hyderabad. She has a son.
