Yurii Ivanovych Zahorodnii (Ukrainian: Загородній Юрій Іванович born 7 May 1959, Hrebinky, UkrSSR) is a Ukrainian politician, People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 9th convocation.

Biography[]

Zahorodnii was born on 7 May 1959 in Hrebinky, Vasylkiv Raion of Kyiv Oblast. He began his working career in 1976 as a locksmith in Hrebinky branch of agricultural machinery. In 1986, he graduated from the faculty of history at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. From 1986 to 1989, Zahorodnii worked as a teacher in Hrebinky secondary school. From 1989 to 1995, he was a principal of the secondary school in Doslidnytske. From 1995 to 2000, he worked intermittently as a monitoring advisor of the Office of the President, and from 1997 to 1998, was the head of the Department of the State Committee for Consumer Protection. From 2002 to January 2005, Zahorodnii was the first Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.[1]

In 1998 he became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (united), and the same year was also elected to the Political Council of the party. In 2000, he was the first Deputy Head of the executive committee of SDPU(o), and from 2002, the head of the executive committee. In 2003, Zahorodnii was elected deputy chairman of the party. On 3 August 2007, he became the head of SDPU(o).[2] In the parliamentary elections of 2019, he was a candidate for people's deputies from the political party 'Opposition Platform — For Life',[3] No. 19 on the list. During the elections, he served as vice-rector for International Affairs and European Integration of Lviv Medical Institute.[4] On 29 August 2019, Zahorodnii took the oath of the People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 9th convocation.[5] He was a member of the political party 'Opposition Platform – For Life' at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and was Chairperson of the Sub-committee on Parliamentary Ethics of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Rules of Procedure, Parliamentary Ethics and Administration of Verkhovna Rada's Work.
