Japan, Japan's largest portal website; Line, Japan's largest messaging app; and PayPay, Japan's largest mobile payment app.[3] After finishing its merger of Yahoo! Japan and Line Corporation in March 2021, the company had a $43 billion market capitalisation.[4]

History[]

Originally, the company was established as Yahoo Japan Corporation in January 1996, but on October 1, 2019, it changed to a holding company due to a company split and changed its corporate name. This item describes the situation after the transition to a holding company (transition on October 1, 2019).

Due to the reorganization of the group centered on Yahoo Japan Corporation (first corporation) in 2019, the information and communication business division (Yahoo! JAPAN business) was absorbed and split into Yahoo Japan Corporation (second corporation), and the financial enterprise management division Was split into Z Financial Co., Ltd. and transferred to a holding company, and is responsible for the management function of the entire group centered on subsidiaries from the time of the first corporation.

On November 18, 2019, an agreement was reached on a business integration with LINE. The parent company Shiodome Z Holdings made LINE private through a takeover bid in collaboration with LINE's parent company Naver, and after the merger of Shiodome Z Holdings and LINE, the operating company established by LINE through a business split became a subsidiary of Z Holdings. Business integration is carried out by the method of moving.

In March 2021 Line Corporation merged with Yahoo! Japan, which has been operated by Z Holdings, a SoftBank Group subsidiary.[5] Under the new structure, Naver Corporation (Line's former parent company) and SoftBank Corp. (the wireless carrier unit of SoftBank Group) each hold 50 percent stakes in a new company named A Holdings Corp., which holds a majority stake in Z Holdings, which now operates Line and Yahoo! Japan.[5][6][7] Upon integrating the two businesses and creating further platforms, the merged company aims to compete with the U.S. tech giants Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Apple and the Chinese tech giants Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent,[6] as well as the Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten.[5] The merger also gives Z Holdings three additional Asian markets where Line is popular: Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia.[5]

Founded in 2021, LINE Bank is a commercial bank headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, and owned by Z Holdings.[8][9][10]
