Zachary Dean Micklewright (born August 21, 1986) is an American retired mixed martial artist who is also in the United States Marine Corps.

Background[]

The son of a Vietnam veteran, Micklewright was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa.[3] He has two older brothers and an older sister.[3] He attended Davenport West High School before enlisting to United States Marine Corps in 2004.[2] Eventually, he was deployed to Iraq and Africa in 2007 and 2012, respectively.[3]

Mixed martial arts career[]

World Extreme Cagefighting[]

He made his WEC debut against Muhsin Corbbrey on December 19, 2009 at WEC 45.[4] He won the fight via unanimous decision. Micklewright was then expected to face Alex Karalexis at WEC 48 on April 24, 2010.[5] However, Micklewright was forced out of the bout due to injury and Karalexis instead faced Anthony Pettis.[6]

Micklewright faced longtime MMA fighter Bart Palaszewski at WEC 50 on August 18, 2010.[7] He lost the fight via second round KO.[8]

In his last fight with the WEC, Micklewright faced Dustin Poirier at WEC 52 on November 11, 2010.[9] He lost the bout via first round TKO, and was then cut from the roster following WEC's merger with the UFC.

Post-WEC career[]

Following his WEC release, Micklewright faced Jason Chambers at Extreme Challenge 182 on April 30, 2011. He won via first round TKO.[10] Two years after his last fight, Micklewright returned to MMA and faced Ted Worthington at Caged Aggression 11 on October 12, 2013, and won via TKO.[11]

Micklewright got a TKO win over Zak Ottow at Caged Aggression 12 on March 15, 2014.[12]

Personal life[]

After retiring from the mixed martial arts, Micklewright became a firefighter, working in the Davenport Fire Department.[2]
