Zahari Baharov (Bulgarian: Захари Бахаров; born 12 August 1980) is a Bulgarian actor, best known for his roles as Moth in Zift, Ivo Andonov in the BNT series Undercover, and Loboda in HBO series Game of Thrones.
Early life[]
He grew up in the old part of Ovcha Kupel. His mother, Müjgan, is of ethnic Turkish origin; she is a philologist and hosts programmes in Turkish on the Bulgarian National Radio.[1][2]
Education[]
In his 12th-grade school year, in 18th SOU ''William Gladstone'', the prospective actor earned his teachers the privilege of not attending the first few classes on the pretext that he was living far away.
Career[]
Baharov studied acting at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. He is acting on stage with the Ivan Vazov National Theatre since 2003. Notable theatrical performances include King Lear (2006), Don Juan (2007), and The Cherry Orchard (2009).
Zachary Baharov is a winner of the award "Askeer" in 2006 for Best Supporting Actor in King Lear; "Icarus" in 2007 for Best Supporting Actor in Don Juan and "Askeer" in 2009 for Three Days of Rain by Richard Greenberg, Theatre 199.
His first major film role was in Zift directed by Javor Gardev. The film makes him a star and earned him a Best Actor Awards in Bulgarian Cinema Year Awards (2009) and the Award for Best Actor at the International Film Festival Chungmuro, Seoul (2009).
In 2012 Baharov together with his colleagues and best friends Vladimir Karamazov and Yulian Vergov founded production company - Three Bears Entertainment. So far the company has produced three theatrical productions - Spinach with potatoes (by Zoltan Egresi), Art (by Yasmina Reza) and Dakota (by Jordi Galceran).
Game of Thrones[]
To participate in HBO series "Game of Thrones", Baharov sent the producers a video with three of his own duplicates, which they approved. So the actor descends north of Valla as the leader of the cannibal tribe, Loboda. The photos were held in Belfast, at 5 degrees, and began at 5 am, because in Ireland it darkened early. The battle scenes were very realistic for them to get into the assembly.
Kit Harington (Jon Snow) says: "Zahari is a great actor, it's fantastic. You'll love his game this season."[3]
Television[]
In 2011-2016 Zachary Baharov played Ivo Andonov in the BNT 1 series Undercover.
From 2012 to 2019 Baharov is the host of the television game Natsionalna Lotariya (National Lottery) on Nova TV. In 2019 there was a major scandal involving the TV show. Baharov was not involved in the scandal but the show got instantly cancelled.
In 2015 he appeared in the HBO series Game of Thrones in Season 5 as Loboda, a wildling,[4]
Personal life[]
Zachary Baharov is in a long-term relationship with Bulgarian journalist Diana Alexieva. Together they have two children - son Maxim (born 2010) and daughter Kaya (born 2013).
Baharov's younger brother, Yavor, is also an actor.
