May[]

  • May 8 – The province of Davao is dissolved after splitting into three provinces. The provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental are established.

July[]

  • July 2 – Canlaon becomes a city in the province of Negros Occidental through Republic Act 3445 and by virtue of Proclamation No. 193.[1]

August[]

  • August 8 – Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) is formed.[2]

November[]

  • November 14
    • An election is held for 8 seats in the Senate.[3]
    • The province of Agusan is dissolved after it is divided into two provinces which are Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur under the Republic Act 4979.

Holidays[]

As per Act No. 2711 section 29,[4] issued on March 10, 1917, any legal holiday of fixed date falls on Sunday, the next succeeding day shall be observed as legal holiday. Sundays are also considered legal religious holidays. Bonifacio Day was added through Philippine Legislature Act No. 2946. It was signed by then-Governor General Francis Burton Harrison in 1921.[5] On October 28, 1931, the Act No. 3827 was approved declaring the last Sunday of August as National Heroes Day.[6] As per Republic Act No. 3022,[7] April 9th is proclaimed as Bataan Day. Independence Day was changed from July 4 (Philippine Republic Day) to June 12 (Philippine Independence Day) last August 4, 1964.[8]
