The 1996 Nicholls State Colonels football team represented Nicholls State University in the 1996 NCAA Division I-AA football season. The Colonels were led by second-gyear head coach Darren Barbier. They played their home games at John L. Guidry Stadium and were a member of the Southland Conference. They finished the season 8–4, 4–2 in Southland play to finish in second place.
