The 2018 MLB Little League Classic was a regular season Major League Baseball (MLB) game that was played on August 19, 2018, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, during the 2018 MLB season and the 2018 Little League World Series.[2] It was the second edition of the annual MLB Little League Classic game.[3]

The game was played between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. It was televised on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball and MLB Network, and it also aired on ESPN Radio.[4]

Background[]

The 2017 MLB Little League Classic saw the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 6–3. In late September 2017, MLB announced that a second Classic would be held in 2018, between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.[2]

Entering the second Classic, the Phillies were 68–55, a half-game behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East; the Mets were 53–69, 15 games behind the Braves.[5] MLB allowed each team to add a 26th player to their active roster, due to the game being played at a neutral site; the Phillies added catcher Andrew Knapp and the Mets added first baseman Dominic Smith.[6]

The Phillies had last played at Bowman Field on July 31, 1962, when the team lost to the Williamsport Grays, the Phillies' Eastern League affiliate, in a mid-season exhibition game.[7]
