The 2022 Philadelphia Phillies season is scheduled to be the 140th season in the history of the franchise, and its 19th season at Citizens Bank Park. They will attempt to make the playoffs for the first time in eleven years.

On December 2, 2021, Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred announced a lockout of players, following expiration of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the league and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA). As a result, the season's schedule is contingent on the outcome of the lockout.[1]As of March 1, the season has been reduced to 157 games, following the cancellation of the first two series.[2]

Preceding offseason[]

Player transactions[]

Players becoming free agents[]

Seven members of the 2021 Phillies automatically became free agents upon the conclusion of the 2021 World Series: Cam Bedrosian, Archie Bradley, Freddy Galvis, Ian Kennedy, Brad Miller, Matt Moore, and Héctor Neris.[3] Of these, Bedrosian re-signed with the Phillies on a minor-league contract on December 14.[4] Neris signed a two-year, $17 million contract with the Houston Astros on December 1,[5] while on December 16, Galvis joined the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball on his own two-year contract.[6]

The day after the World Series concluded, the Phillies declined their 2022 options on Andrew McCutchen and Odúbel Herrera. While McCutchen was bought out of the remainder of his contract and became a free agent, Herrera remained under team control.[7] Two days later, Herrera was one of six players outrighted from the 40-man roster who subsequently elected free agency. The others were Andrew Knapp, Travis Jankowski, Ronald Torreyes, J. D. Hammer, and Ramón Rosso.[8] On December 1, Knapp joined the Cincinnati Reds while Hammer joined the Colorado Rockies, both on minor-league contracts.[9][10]

Roman Quinn, who had been the Phillies organization's longest-tenured player but had battled injuries for most of his career, was designated for assignment on November 29.[11]

Acquisitions[]

The Phillies began their bullpen overhaul on November 5, 2021, when they claimed left-handed relief pitcher Ryan Sherriff off of waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays.[12]

Regular season[]

Game log[]

As the 2021–22 Major League Baseball lockout is still ongoing, games may continue to be rescheduled or canceled.[13]
