5 January – The team sent by the World Health Organization to study the origins of the coronavirus pandemic virus is blocked from entering China. The team claims their visas had not been approved yet. Tedros Adhanom expressed his dismay, saying he had been in contact with senior Chinese officials, and how important the expedition was.[1]
11 January – 13 members of the 15 member World Health Organization team sent to study the origins of COVID-19 arrive in Wuhan, China. The last two members are awaiting in Singapore for their COVID-19 test results.[2]

13 April – Regarding to the Japanese cabinet's decision to dump radioactive water of the Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean, China's foreign ministry expressed strong opposition.[3][4]
4 August – A syphilis man buying a paralytic bride to have nine children (zh:梅毒男与智障女子9孩案) was exposed by local media in Shandong, which raised legal controversy over whether this constitutes legal rape in China.
8 August – The tech company Alibaba Group fired senior executives who silenced an internal complaint of rape and who ordered a media blackout of the complaint (zh:阿里巴巴员工被领导强奸案). This rape case in China exposed the Chinese business culture of forcing female employees to act as KTV hostesses to entertain business clients. This case is also a boost to the #MeToo movement in China.
