Ongoing — COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden
- 5 January – A 55-year-old female suspect is arrested after the deadly stabbing of a man in the Ljura district of Norrköping that occurred a night prior.[1][2][3]
- 31 January – Sweden loses to Denmark in the final of the 2021 World Men's Handball Championship, winning silver in the competition.[4][5]
- 3 March – Vetlanda stabbing attack: An Afghan man in his twenties injured 7 people[6] with an axe in Vetlanda. He was shot and wounded by police before being arrested.[7][8]
- 22–28 March – 2021 World Figure Skating Championships was held in Stockholm.[9]
- 1 April - Kalix train station is opened.[10]
- 16 May - Bromma Airport and Light Rail station is opened.[11]

- 8 July - A single-engine DHC-2 Beaver carrying 8 skydivers plus 1 pilot crashed shortly after takeoff from Örebro Airport. All 9 people died.[15]
- 21 July – Two inmates take prison guards hostage at near Eskilstuna with demands for kebab pizza and a helicopter. The inmates were taken into custody later the same day.[16]
