General elections will be held in Fiji by November 2022.[1][2]
Background[]
The 2018 general elections resulted in the FijiFirst party, led by incumbent Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama losing five seats but retaining their parliamentary majority and remaining in office as a majority government. The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA), which gained six seats, continued as the opposition while the National Federation Party retained its three seats.[3]
Campaign[]
On 17 March 2022 the Electoral Commission announced that the campaign period would begin on 26 April 2022 and conclude two days prior to election day.[4][5]
Electoral system[]
Members of the Parliament of Fiji are elected from a single nationwide constituency by open list proportional representation with an electoral threshold of 5%. Seats are allocated using the d'Hondt method.[6][7]
