Aase Othlo Barfod Clausen (1914 — 2005) was a Danish beauty model and film actress, who In 1932, became the fifth Miss Europe, and the first Danish to earn the title. She was the fifth winner of the Miss Denmark beauty pageant contest. She also participated in the 1932 edition of Miss Universe.[a]

Life[]

Clausen was born on August 15, 1914, in Lynge, North Zealand. She was the daughter of music director Henrik Clausen (1888-1956) and Valborg A. née Jørgensen.[1] She won the title of Miss Denmark in 1932,[2][3] that qualified her for the Miss Europe 1932, which was held in Hotel Negresco in Nice, France.[4] She was the fifth participant to win the Miss Europe crown, and the first-ever Danish woman to do so.[5][6][7] Aase Clausen was voted as Miss Europe 1932 from among 15 participants of different countries, in a unanimous decision by the juries led by the Belgian born French journalist  [fr], and thus started to receive invitations to participate in the other beauty pageants and also in films. She took part and came 8th in the 1932 Miss Universe (not to be confused with the modern edition, which began in 1952) contest that was held in Spa, Belgium, and was won by Turkish beauty pageant Keriman Halis Ece.[8][9] On November 6, 1934, Aase Clause was married to local feature film director and producer, Hans Carl Preben Holten (1911 — 1957), with whom she'd have three children.[10] In 1944, the couple had to flee to Sweden, because of the German occupation and sabotage in Copenhagen, which brought an end to her acting career.[10]

Aase Clausen died on September 7, 2005. She is buried in the Hellerup Cemetery.[11]
