Saint Adbiesus (also known as Saint Adbiesus the Deacon or Hebed Jesus) was a Deacon who was one of the Martyrs of Persia under Shapur II.[1]
History[]
Roman Catholic Tradition states that Saint Adbiesus was a Deacon serving in Persia during the time of the persecutions of Shapur II. He was also accompanied in his martyrdom by Abrosimus, Acepsimus, Azadanes, Azades, Bicor, Mareas, Milles, and a woman named Tarbula.[2]
Saint Adbiesus has been venerated since the pre-Congregational era.[3]
Roman Catholic Martyrology styles Saint Adbiesus as 'Saint Adbiesus the Deacon' as not to confuse him with another martyr of the same name 'Adbiesus', who served as the Bishop of Cashcar.[4]
In Persian - Iranian, Arabic and Latin Meaning, the name Adbiesus is 'one who serves Jesus.'[5]
Death and feast day[]
Saint Adbiesus was martyred in the year of 342, and his feast day is April 22.[6]
