Aggabai Sasubai (transl. Oh Mine Mother-In-Law) is a 2019–2021 Indian Marathi television series that was broadcast on the channel Zee Marathi and is now digitally available on ZEE5. It was directed by Ajay Mayekar and Jayant Pawar. It starred Girish Oak, Nivedita Joshi-Saraf, Ashutosh Patki, Tejashri Pradhan, Ravi Patwardhan and Mohan Joshi in lead roles.

Synopsis[]

It is a story that focuses on life of Asawari, a widow who cares for her family and faces all life issues with peace. She raised her son Soham and also takes care of her father-in-law Aajoba but she neglects herself while loving everyone else.

After the marriage of Soham, the show focuses on how Asawari's daughter-in-law Shubhra strives to bring joy into Asawari's life then, Asawari falls in love with Chef Abhijeet Raje.^[1]

Plot[]

Shubhra arrives at Soham's house to inform his family members about their relationship. As Asawari enjoys Abhijit's cookery show named Swad Aswad. Shubhra approaches her to inform Asawari about her and Soham's decision to marry which angers Aajoba. The next day, Aajoba is disappointed with Soham and Shubhra's register marriage. Later, everyone meets at Abhijit's restaurant named Abhi's Kitchen for a meal together. Asawari then welcomes the newlywed bride, Shubhra, with a gift. After Abhijit phones Asawari, Shubhra comes up with a plan to make Aajoba unlock himself from his room. Shubhra then places a bet with Asawari about Aajoba not being able to recognise the food prepared by her. Meanwhile, Abhi's Kitchen manager and Abhijit's friend Maddy questions Abhijit about his choice of bride. Later, Asawari phones Abhijit to tell him that she liked the dish sent by him. As a wedding gift, Soham's friends organize a stay for him and Shubhra which dismays Aajoba. Later, he makes the couple return home immediately by phoning Soham. The next morning, Shubhra finds an old camera in the store room which makes Asawari emotional. Aajoba uploads its photograph on the Internet to sell the camera. Later, the Kulkarni family goes to a temple. Just then, Abhijit also arrives there but Aajoba confronts him due to a big misunderstanding. Abhijit then arrives at Asawari's house to buy the camera when she is busy watching his cookery show. His unexpected arrival baffles her. Unable to manage the situation, she phones Shubhra. Later, Aajoba returns home and sells the camera but Abhijit leaves it at Asawari's house. Aajoba then hurries to deposit Abhijit's cheque in the bank. Even after learning that Abhijit has not taken the camera with him, he refuses to return the cheque, but Shubhra manages to convince him. Later, Asawari goes to Abhi's Kitchen to return the cheque to Abhijit. Asawari then waits for Shubhra outside Abhi's Kitchen. Just then, Abhijit arrives over there and accompanies her to her house. On their way back, Abhijit and Asawari share a candid conversation. As Asawari is late, Aajoba tells Soham to heat the dinner but in vain. Aajoba scolds Asawari when she returns home but Shubhra consoles her. The next day, Aajoba goes for a morning walk but Asawari and Shubhra start to worry when he does not return. Aajoba takes Asawari's test with his neighbour and friend Karkhanis Kaka's help. Later, Abhijit gives an idea to Asawari to win Aajoba's heart. The next day, Karkhanis Kaka visits Soham's house and invites everyone for lunch at his house. Shubhra insists Asawari to wear a nice saree but Soham expresses his dislike for it, following which, Shubhra teaches him a lesson. Later, everyone goes to Karkhanis Kaka's house and have lunch. As they watch Abhijit's cookery show with Karkhanis Kaka's daughter-in-law Pradnya. After that, Shubhra buys a microwave, and Pradnya taunts Asawari while going to the market. Aajoba creates a scene as he is unable to heat food in the microwave. Meanwhile, handing over Abhi's Kitchen's responsibility to Maddy, Abhijit goes to the market and meets Asawari there.

One month later

Aajoba suggests Abhijeet to marry Maddy. However, Abhijeet misunderstood him to be talking about Asawari. The confusion further increases when Abhijeet talks to Asawari, but she misunderstands him to be talking about the royalty payments. Asawari gets teary-eyed while talking to Maddy about Abhijeet and Maddy's marriage. Abhijeet gets shocked on learning that his marriage is fixed with Maddy. On seeing an upset Asawari, Abhijeet tries to talk to her, but she refuses to listen to him. After few hours Abhijeet goes to the Asawari's house and explains the misunderstanding about the marriage to Maddy. After discussing the matter in detail, they decide against getting married.

Shubhra confides in Asawari that she disapproves of Maddy and Abhijeet's marriage. Maddy informs Aajoba about her marriage with Abhijeet. Later, Aajoba berates Abhijeet and forbids him from coming to their house. Shubhra informs Abhijeet that Aajoba is very angry on him. Abhijeet learns that Maddy is responsible for the misunderstanding. When Abhijeet sits alone in the dark in his restaurant in Diwali, then Asawari brings lamps. Elated, he gifts her a Saree. Shubhra insists Asawari to wear the Saree gifted by Abhijeet. Later, Aajoba rebukes Asawari on seeing her decked up in a new Saree and told to give it to Pradnya.

Few months later

Shubhra calls Abhijeet and teases him. Later, she bumps into a barefooted Abhijeet while he looks for Asawari in the market. Shubhra then makes him confess his love for Asawari. Abhijeet proposed Asawari, Pradnya eavesdrops on them. Later, Shubhra consoles a stunned Abhijeet and a crying Asawari. Meanwhile, Pradnya tries to instigate Soham against Abhijeet and Asawari. Asawari gets disheartened as Soham and his father-in-law, Aajoba, berate her.

The next day, Shubhra tries to talk to Asawari about Abhijeet, a furious Soham destroys the things kept safely by Asawari as souvenir of Abhijeet. Plagued by Abhijeet's memories, Asawari gets terrified as Aajoba confronts her. Abhijeet's confession of love for further infuriates Aajoba who then berates Asawari. Later, Asawari apologising her father-in-law delights a sly Soham. Shubhra questions Aajoba about the advertisement about Asawari's marriage, but he berates Shubhra and Asawari. Later, he gets shocked on seeing the prospective groom brought by Karkhanis. Asawari rejoices on seeing Abhijit but Aajoba rejects his proposal. When a prospective groom, Katekor, comes to see Asawari, Soham is startled to see the money in his bag. As Katekor lectures Shubhra, she gives him a befitting reply. Infuriated due to Katekor eyeing Asawari in a wrong way, Shubhra takes Asawari away from him. When Abhijit comes to Asawari's house, Aajoba and Katekor insult him. Shubhra, however, arranges for Abhijit and Asawari to meet in private. A distressed Shubhra shares her concern with Abhijit. Later, Abhijit gets puzzled when Asawari comes to his restaurant with Katekor. On realising that Katekor has ordered a single dish of Asawari's choice, Abhijit comes up with an idea. Asawari shares her inner turmoil with Abhijit. On seeing Asawari's plight, Shubhra asks Soham to talk to Aajoba. Later, Asavari tells her decision directly to Katekor but his conversation with Aajoba after that leaves her shocked. Katekor brings a ring for his engagement with Asawari and tells Aajoba to pick a date. Shubhra comes up with a plan as Asawari does not want to go out with Katekor. Later, when Katekor takes Asawari to a secluded place, Abhijit comes there. Everyone goes to Pradnya's house as Asawari's house gets locked. Aajoba scolds Asawari when Katekor complains to him. Shubhra video-calls Abhijit to pacify a crying Asawari. When Abhijit brings a smile on Asawari's face, Katekor calls her. Asawari and Shubhra go out with Katekor to shop for the engagement. There, Shubhra comes up with a plan to arrange for Asawari and Abhijit to meet and informs Abhijit about it. Later, Shubhra informs Katekor that she is going to get Abhijit and Asawari married. Shubhra urges Abhijit and Asawari to get married immediately. Meanwhile, Katekor heads towards the marriage register office with Maddy. On learning the truth there, he goes to Asawari's house. Later, Shubhra outsmarts Katekor and foils his plan. Shubhra informs Katekor's decision about the engagement to Abhijit. Abhijit tries to persuade Aajoba but in vain. Later, Shubhra comes up with a new plan. The next day, when Katekor comes home for the engagement, Shubhra argues with Soham. After some days, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Shubhra gives a promise to Asawari. Later, Abhijit arrives at Asawari's house. After listening to Aajoba's decision, Abhijit decides to part ways with Asawari forever. Shubhra urges Aajoba to stop Abhijit. Aajoba then expresses his feelings before Abhijit and others and takes an important decision regarding Abhijit and Asawari's relationship. However, a furious Soham questions him. Later, Abhijit gives a surprise to Asawari and proposes to her. After that, everyone rejoice when Nene Guruji fixes Abhijit and Asawari's wedding date. Abhijit phones his sister to tell her this good news but gets disheartened as she avoids talking to him. Soham seethes in anger on seeing the weddding preparations going on in full swing. Soon, Karkhanis Kaka decides to organise Abhijit's haldi ceremony at his house. When Pradnya taunts Asawari for dressing up, Shubhra comforts the latter. Abhijit sends a gift to Asawari for their haldi ceremony. Later, Pradnya plots to disrupt Asawari's haldi ceremony. When Shubhra is about to apply turmeric on Asawari, Sulbha Kaku arrives with Abhijit's turmeric, causing Pradnya to fail to disrupt the haldi ceremony. Aajoba then tells Soham to apply turmeric on Asawari. Later, everyone enjoy Asawari's mehendi ceremony. Meanwhile, Abhijit goes to meet Asawari secretly but escapes on hearing Aajoba's voice. On the wedding day, Soham creates misunderstandings to hinder the wedding, then Asawari suddenly decides to cancel the wedding. Later, Abhijit clears the misunderstandings and marries Asawari.

Casting[]

The show starred Nivedita Joshi-Saraf, Tejashri Pradhan, Girish Oak, Ravi Patwardhan and Ashutosh Patki. In January 2021, Mohan Joshi replaced Ravi Patwardhan due to the latter's demise.^[2][3]

Filming[]

The series is mainly filmed at Thane. Abhi's Kitchen is located at Ghodbunder Road, Thane. Some of the series outdoor shoots were done near Thane Noble Pharma, Thane. The wedding track of Abhijeet and Asawari's was shot in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Abhijeet and Asawari's honeymoon scene was shot in Jaipur, Rajasthan.^[4]

Spin-off[]

Due to the success of Aggabai Sasubai, the makers replaced it with the spin-off of the series titled Aggabai Sunbai. The promo of the show was launched on 21 February 2021 and replaced the parent show from 15 March 2021 at same time. Nivedita Joshi-Saraf and Girish Oak will reprise their respective role as Asawari and Abhijeet Raje while Uma Pendharkar has replaced Tejashri Pradhan as Shubhra and Adwait Dadarkar replaced Ashutosh Patki as Soham Kulkarni.^[5]
