Agona Swedru is a town and the capital of Agona West Municipal District, a district in the Central Region of south Ghana.[2][3] Agona Swedru has a 2013 settlement population of about 70,000 people.[1]

The native language spoken in and around here is Agona, similar to the native Ghanaian language 'fante' but with a different accent and tonation.

The main business center in Agona Swedru is Texaco, a place well to be the center of the town. In the center of the town is a river called Akora River. Agona Swedru is known to be one of the best towns in terms of local market business with its main market popularly known as 'Mandela' and 'Gua Ekyir'. Inside the Mandela market is well known supermarket chain -Melcom
