Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, is a Kenyan Musician and businesswoman. She is the founder of Akothee Safaris( a tour company based in Kenya), Akothee Foundation, Aknotela and Akothee Homes, a real estate business.[1]

Early life and education[]

Akothee was born in 8 April 1980 in Migori County where she grew up. She was the first daughter of her parents. Akothee attended Nyabisawa Girls secondary school.[2]

Personal Life[]

Akothee is a mother of five children,[3] three daughters and two boys.[4]

Music career[]

Akothee's music career started in 2008.[5] She has released several successful songs. They include : Oyoyo featuring McGalaxy,[6] Give It To Me,[7] featuring Flavour, Sweet Love featuring Diamond,[8] Benefactor,[9] Yuko Moyoni,[10] New Dance featuring Oc,[11] Osilliation, Nimechoka, Pashe, Katika, Djele Djele, Shengerera, Mama Bougerie, and Tucheze.[11] Early March 2020, Akothee released Mwitu asa, a song written and sang in the Kamba language. Since Akothee is not a native speaker of the Kamba language, this was considered intriguing[12] and popular among her fans especially those from the Kamba ethnic group.

Since starting her career in music, she has since released many solo titles as well as collaborations with popular artists, including Diamond Platnumz. She has also scooped several awards at home and abroad. They include African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA – Best Female Artist (East Africa) 2016. African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA – Best video. African Entertainment Awards USA – Best Female Artist.[13]

She founded Akothee Safaris, a tours and travels company based in Nairobi, Kenya and appointed her daughter as the Director of the company. She is also the founder of Akothee Foundation, which was established to help people in the society. She also started Aknotela and Akothee Homes, which is a real estate company that manages.[14]

Popularity[]

Akothee is one of the most popular music artists in Kenya. With more than one million followers, her Instagram account is currently the eleventh most followed among East African celebrities, behind Lupita Nyong'o, Diamond Platnumz, Ali Kiba, and others.[15][16][17]
