Andrea Pieroni (born 1967) is the former rector of the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy, where he is full professor of ethnobotany and ethnobiology.

Biography[]

After receiving a Laurea from the University of Pisa in 1993, he earned his doctorate in Life Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Bonn in 1998. He was a research assistant at the University of London from 2000 to 2003, and lectured at the University of Bradford from then until 2009. He became professor of ethnobotany at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in 2009; he was appointed rector from 2017 to 2021.[1][2]

Between 2008 and 2010 he was vice-president and president of the . He was the founding editor of the Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine.[1] [2] He is an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Albania.[3]

Research[]

His research specialties are the cultural heritage and local environmental knowledge of "minorities, diasporas, cultural and geographical boundaries in the Mediterranean, the Balkans, Eastern Europe, and especially in the Greater Middle East".[1]

According to Scopus he has an h-index of 48.[4]
