Arataki is a neighbourhood of Mount Maunganui Tauranga, in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island.

Bayfair Shopping Centre is located in Arataki.

Arataki, comprising the statistical areas of Arataki North, Arataki South, Te Maunga North and Te Maunga South, had a population of 13,341 at the 2018 New Zealand census, an increase of 1,848 people (16.1%) since the 2013 census, and an increase of 2,157 people (19.3%) since the 2006 census. There were 5,328 households. There were 6,195 males and 7,149 females, giving a sex ratio of 0.87 males per female, with 2,304 people (17.3%) aged under 15 years, 2,133 (16.0%) aged 15 to 29, 5,388 (40.4%) aged 30 to 64, and 3,516 (26.4%) aged 65 or older.

Ethnicities were 83.0% European/Pākehā, 19.5% Māori, 3.0% Pacific peoples, 4.9% Asian, and 2.4% other ethnicities (totals add to more than 100% since people could identify with multiple ethnicities).

The proportion of people born overseas was 19.1%, compared with 27.1% nationally.

Although some people objected to giving their religion, 50.0% had no religion, 38.1% were Christian, 0.4% were Hindu, 0.2% were Muslim, 0.5% were Buddhist and 4.6% had other religions.

Of those at least 15 years old, 2,139 (19.4%) people had a bachelor or higher degree, and 2,187 (19.8%) people had no formal qualifications. The employment status of those at least 15 was that 4,872 (44.1%) people were employed full-time, 1,485 (13.5%) were part-time, and 333 (3.0%) were unemployed.[1]

Education[]

Arataki School is a co-educational state primary school for Year 1 to 6 students,[2][3] with a roll of 518 as of November 2021.[4]

St Thomas More Catholic School is a co-educational state-integrated Catholic primary school for Year 1 to 6 students,[5] with a roll of 107.[6]
