Automat Pictures is an American film and television production company based in Los Angeles, focusing on the production of independent films, original television programming, EPK, and Blu-ray and DVD added value. It was founded in 2000 by director-producer Jeffrey Schwarz. Both have worked with New Line Cinema on several of their projects as DVD producers.[1]

History and production[]

Automat was founded in 2000 by producers Jeffrey Schwarz and Laura Nix. The first film produced on DVD for New Line Cinema was Final Destination in 2000.[2]

Some notable DVD releases produced by Schwarz through Automat include Raging Bull, The Silence of the Lambs, Blue Velvet, This Is Spinal Tap, Philadelphia, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Rent, Menace II Society, When Harry Met Sally..., Footloose, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, Fargo, Basic Instinct, Hairspray, Friday, and all six films in the Resident Evil franchise.

Automat's first independent documentary, Spine Tingler! The William Castle Story, featuring cult filmmaker William Castle, won the Audience Award at the American Film Institute's AFI Fest in 2007, and won multiple awards around the country.[3][4] It was released on DVD by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in 2009; Automat released a special-edition DVD in June 2011.[5][6] After that Automat shifted its focus to feature film production.
