Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2016 would have been the second edition of the Bala Turkvision Song Contest, and was scheduled to take place in Turkey. The contest which is the junior equivalent of the Turkvision Song Contest; and is similar to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest being the younger equivalent of the Eurovision Song Contest. Eligible to participate are Turkic regions, which have either a large Turkic population or a widely spoken Turkic language. Contestants must be aged between 8 and 15 and must perform in a Turkic language.

Eleven countries and regions had announced their participation. With Crimea, Kumyk, Sandžak, Stavropol Krai, and Yakutia, planning on making their Bala Turkvision debut. In February 2017, two months after the contest was supposed to air it was announced as being cancelled, and Kazakhstan were announced as the hosts for the Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2017 in Astana.

It was announced on 18 April 2016, that the second Bala Turkvision Song Contest will be held in Turkey.[1]

Cancellation[]

On 8 December 2016, it was announced that both the Turkvision Song Contest 2016 and Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2016 had been delayed until March 2017, marking the first time since either of the inaugural contests, that a postponement had occurred.[2] However, it was later confirmed that both of the 2016 contests had been cancelled due to the December 2016 Istanbul bombings.[3] The contest was rescheduled to take place at the Barys Arena, in Astana, Kazakhstan.[4]

  • Khakassia Khakassia – On 5 October 2016 it was announced that Khakassia is yet decide on their 2016 participation. The Russian region was due to debut in the 2015 edition but they were forced to withdraw due to the state of international relations between the Russian Federation and Turkey.[18]
  • Northern Cyprus Northern Cyprus – On 13 October 2016 it was announced that Northern Cyprus is yet decide on its 2016 participation.[19]
