Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Belgian entry was selected through a combination of an internal selection, to select the artist, and a national final, to select the song, both organised by the Belgian broadcaster VRT. Iris represented Belgium with the song "Would You?", which failed to qualify from the first semi-final, achieving 17th place with 16 points.[1][2]

Before Eurovision[]

Artist selection[]

On 18 November 2011, VRT announced that Iris would be representing Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.[3]

Eurosong 2012: Een song voor Iris[]

The song that Iris represented Belgium with was selected through a national final called Eurosong 2012: Een song voor Iris. On 19 December 2011, VRT opened a submission period for composers to submit their songs, with the deadline concluding on 16 January 2012.[4] Two songs were selected for the competition.

The final took place on 17 March 2012 at the Het Omroepcentrum in Brussels, hosted by Peter Van de Veire. A public televote determined the winning song, "Would You?", with music and lyrics by Nina Sampermans, Jean Bosco Safari and Walter Mannaerts. The results were later announced during the talkshow Vrienden Van de Veire.[5]
