Georgia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Georgian entry was selected through a national selection, organised by the Georgian broadcaster GPB.[1] Anri Jokhadze represented Georgia with the song "I'm a Joker", which failed to qualify from the second semi-final, achieving 14th place with 36 points.[2][3]

National final[]

The Georgian national final took place on 19 February 2012 at the GPB studios in Tbilisi, hosted by Temo Kvirkvelia. Nine acts competed and a jury and public vote selected the winner. The show was broadcast on 1 TV GPB as well as online at the broadcaster's website 1tv.ge and the official Eurovision Song Contest website eurovision.tv.[4]

Competing entries[]

GPB announced that a public submission would be opened from 15 December 2011 until 25 January 2012. Both artists and composers were required to have Georgian citizenship in order to be eligible to compete and songs were required to be in English or Georgian.[5][6] 13 entries were received by the submission deadline and an expert commission selected the top nine entries from the received submissions. The competing entries were announced on 13 February 2012.[7]

Final[]

The final took place on 19 February 2012. Nine entries competed and the winner, "I'm a Joker" performed by Anri Jokhadze, was determined upon by the 50/50 combination of the votes of an expert jury and a public SMS vote. In addition to the performances of the competing entries, singer Phikria Mamphoria, 2011 Georgian Junior Eurovision winners Candy, 2011 Georgian Eurovision entrants Eldrine and 2012 Azerbaijani Eurovision entrant Sabina Babayeva performed as guests.[8]

At Eurovision[]

Georgia competed in the second half of the second semi-final (12th on stage), on 24 May 2012, following Sweden and preceding the Turkey. Georgia received 36 points and placed 14th, thus failing to qualify for the final on 26 May.[9] The public awarded Georgia 18th place with 15 points and the jury awarded 8th place with 62 points.[10]
