Georgia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Georgian entry was selected through an internal selection, organised by the Georgian broadcaster Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB). The Shin and Mariko performed the Georgian entry "Three Minutes to Earth", written by Zaza Miminoshvili and Eugen Eliu, which failed to qualify from the second semi-final, placing 15th (last) and scoring 15 points.

Before Eurovision[]

Internal selection[]

GPB opted to internally select the Georgian entry for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. On 4 February 2014, the broadcaster held a press conference at their Assembly Hall in Tbilisi, hosted by 2013 Georgian Eurovision entrants Nodiko Tatishvili and Sophie Gelovani, where they announced that they had internally selected The Shin and Mariko Ebralidze to represent Georgia in Copenhagen.[1][2]

On 24 February 2014, "Three Minutes to Earth" was announced as their song, which was recorded in late February 2014 at the scb-music Studios in Stuttgart.[3][4] "Three Minutes to Earth" was presented to the public together with the music video, directed by Basa Potskhishvili, on 14 March 2014 via the GPB First Channel programme Day.[5] The song was composed by band member of The Shin Zaza Miminoshvili with lyrics by Eugen Eliu.[6]

At Eurovision[]

During the semi-final allocation draw on 20 January 2014 at the Copenhagen City Hall, Georgia was drawn to compete in the first half of the second semi-final on 8 May 2014.[7] In the second semi-final, the producers of the show decided that Georgia would perform 4th, following Norway and preceding Poland.[8] Georgia failed to qualify from the second semi-final, placing last (15th) in a field of 15 songs with a score of 15 points.[9]

The Georgian performance featured the members of The Shin along with Mariko performing the song while playing instruments and one of the members of The Shin, Alexander Chumburidze, wearing a parachute. The LED screens projected blue skies which transitioned into a meadow and mountainous landscape.[10][11]

In Georgia, the semi-finals and the final were broadcast on GBP First Channel with commentary by Lado Tatishvili and Tamuna Museridze.[12][13] The Georgian spokespersons revealing the result of the Georgian vote in the final were 2013 Georgian contest entrants Sophie Gelovani and Nodi Tatishvili.[14]

Voting[]

The tables below visualise a breakdown of points awarded to and by Georgia in the first semi-final and the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. The points awarded by Georgia in the semi-final were based on 100% jury voting due to either technical issues with the televoting or an insufficient number of valid votes cast during the televote period.[15] The points awarded by Georgia in the final were based on 100% televoting due to a breach of the rules, of which the European Broadcasting Union believed that Georgia's jury members did not vote independently, as each juror had the same top 8 acts.[16][17]
