Georgia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden, and have selected their entry through an internal selection, organised by Georgian broadcaster GPB. Nodi Tatishvili and Sophie Gelovani represented Georgia with the song "Waterfall", which qualified from the second semi-final of the competition and placed 15th place in the final, scoring 50 points.

Before Eurovision[]

Internal selection[]

On 31 December 2012, the broadcaster announced that they had internally selected Sopho Gelovani and Nodiko Tatishvili to represent Georgia in Malmö.[1][2][3] On 10 January 2013, GPB announced that Swedish composer Thomas G:son, who has written several Eurovision entries for various countries including the winning song of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest "Euphoria", has been commissioned to compose their song.[4]

On 6 February 2013, "Waterfall" was announced as their song, which was recorded in February 2013 at the Sano Studio in Georgia.[5] "Waterfall" was presented to the public together with the music video, directed by Temo Kvirkvelia and filmed in Tbilisi and at the Chavchavadze House-Museum in Tsinandali, on 27 February 2013 via the 1 TV GPB programme Our Morning.[6][7][8] The song was written and composed by Thomas G:son and Erik Bernholm.

Promotion[]

Prior to the contest, Gelovani and Tatishvili travelled to Armenia to specifically promote "Waterfall" as the Georgian entry by performing during the Armenian national final on 2 March 2013.[9]

Georgia was allocated to compete in the second semi-final on 16 May for a place in the final on 18 May.[10] In the second semifinal, the producers of the show decided that Georgia would perform 15th, following Albania and preceding Switzerland.[11] The staging director for the Georgian performance was Lasha Oniani, while the outfits of Gelovani and Tatishvili were designed by Avtandil Tskvitinidze.[5] On stage, Nodi and Sophie were joined by three backing vocalists: Johanna Beijbom, Lisette Vares Uhlmann and Hans-Martin Kagemark.[12] Georgia qualified from the second semi-final, placing 10th and scoring 63 points.[13][14]

At the second semi-final winners' press conference, Georgia was allocated to perform in the second half of the final.[15] In the final, the producers of the show decided that Georgia would perform 25th, following Norway and preceding Ireland.[16] Georgia placed 15th in the final, scoring 50 points.[17]

The Georgian entry was awarded one of the three Marcel Bezençon Awards, which honour the best of the competing entries for the 2013 Contest in different areas of achievement. Georgia received the Press Award, which was awarded to the best entry as voted by the accredited media and press.[18]
