The Berlin Music Video Awards (BMVA) is a festival and networking event for filmmakers, directors, artists, musicians, and music video fans held annually in Berlin, Germany.[1] The four-day event consists of music video marathons, live performances, DJ sets, various workshops, and fashion. The BMVA highlights that anyone can participate - quality, originality and diversity will be rewarded.[2]
History[]
The Berlin Music Video Awards (BMVA) was founded in 2013 by the producer and manager Aviel Silook.[3] The event-organizer initiated this festival and award ceremony as this format had not existed in Berlin.[4] Initially, it was aimed to be local but in the first year of existence it became international with participants from Europe and North America. Ever since, more award categories have been added and the international recognition has grown.[5][6][7][8][9][10]
Amongst the awardees in different categories are The Prodigy, Coldplay, and Little Big (band). The BMVA are characterized by a diverse line-up ranging from low budget productions or newcomers to internationally accredited artists. It thus highlights the state of art in the current music video industry and awards outstanding productions.[11]

Program[]
The BMVA takes place on four consecutive days in May/June every year. The nominees and awardees of the music videos in the different categories are presented in the ceremony and winners of each category are announced and awarded. Furthermore, the show also consists of onstage live performances from renowned bands and musicians. In the past years Little Big, Vitalic or members of The Prodigy performed. Usually the festival takes place in one of Berlin's popular clubs, e.g. at Club GRETCHEN (2019/2018)[20] or Nuke Club (2017).[21] The award ceremony is accompanied by after show parties.[22] The BMVA is thus a networking event for artists from the video and music industry or anyone interested in music videos or Berlin's unique nightlife events.
In the years 2020[23] and 2021,[24] the award ceremony took place digitally as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic. The show was recorded at the KitKat Club (2020) and Alex Berlin (2021), who had been cooperating with the BMVA since its early years.[25] The hosts in 2020/21 were Alexandrine Yetunde,[26] David Hailey,[27] and, in 2021, they were accompanied by the DJ Chemical Adam[28]
