Birkach ( /ˈbɪərkx/) is an urban district in the south of Stuttgart located on the plain known as the Filderebene, just north of Plieningen. Of the districts of Stuttgart, Birkach is among the smallest.[1]

History[]

Birkach was mentioned for the first time in 1140 as "Birckhe" and was probably a possession of the Lords of and by extension the County Palatine of Tübingen. Between 1295 and 1317, the village, now known as Birtach or Birka,[2] was sold to Bebenhausen Abbey.[1]
