Cărpiniș (Hungarian: Gyertyámos) is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of two villages, Cărpiniș and Iecea Mică (Kisjécsa). It also included Iecea Mare village until it was split off to form a separate commune in 2004.
Name[]
In German, it is known as Gertianosch or Gertjanosch, in Hungarian as Gyertyámos, and in Serbian as Карпиниш / Karpiniš.
Localization[]
Cărpiniș is situated on at a distance of 27.9 km from Timișoara and 15,3 km from Jimbolia, the closest city. Cărpiniș has a CFR Train station for the line Cărpiniș-Timișoara and Cărpiniș-Ionel.
History[]
In year 1387 Cărpiniș is documentary certified. Like in many other villages from Banat, Cărpiniș was colonized by German families from the Habsburg Empire (around the year 1767).
Economy[]
Cărpiniș is one of the biggest villages in Timiș County, having a big influence on the economies of the surrounding villages and a clear urban evolution.
