Cannabis in Saint Lucia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cannabis in Saint Lucia is illegal. Cannabis is the only drug grown locally on Saint Lucia, and meets 20% of the local demand, with the remainder coming from the other Caribbean island, predominantly Jamaica and St vincent, and more developed countries such as the United States. Also, a significant portion is shipped in from countries in south America such as Columbia and Venezuela. [1]

Decriminalization[]

The use of Cannabis is illegal in Saint Lucia and has not been decriminalized. However, legislation has been drafted to reduce the sentencing of persons imprisoned for small quantities of marijuana.[2]

Since September 14, 2021 the possession of 30 grams of herbal cannabis for personal use is allowed. It will be illegal to consume weed in public places. The culprits will incur a fine of 470 euros. The consumption of cannabis will be prohibited for minors. In the event of arrest, those under 18 will be followed by drug addiction counselors.[3]
