Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is an upcoming American live-action/CGI-animated[2] adventure comedy film based on, and a continuation of,[3] the animated TV series of the same name. The film was directed by Akiva Schaffer from a screenplay by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, from an original story by Barry Schwartz.
Synopsis[]
Years after the Rescue Rangers TV series has ended, Chip and Dale must re-team to save a friend from video piracy.[4]
Cast[]
- John Mulaney as Chip, the fearless, optimistic, mature leader and co-founder of the Rescue Rangers, with a strong moral standard.[2]
- Andy Samberg as Dale, Chip's happy-go-lucky best friend and co-founder of the Rescue Rangers, who usually acts before thinking.[2]
- Corey Burton as Zipper, a housefly and member of the Rescue Rangers, who is Monterey Jack's longtime friend and sidekick who speaks in unintelligible buzzes.[5] Burton will reprise his role from the TV series.
Additionally, Seth Rogen will have a cameo.

Development and pre-production[]
On January 31, 2014, it was announced that The Walt Disney Company is developing a live-action feature-length film based on the Disney Afternoon animated series Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, with use of CGI special effects, similar to the Alvin & the Chipmunks film series. Robert Rugan was hired to write and direct the film.[6]
In May 2019, Akiva Schaffer was hired as the director, replacing Rugan. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand will serve as co-screenwriters, doing a rewrite of the previous draft by Barry Schwartz. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will serve as producers. The project will be a co-production between Walt Disney Pictures and Mandeville Films.[7]
Casting[]
In November 2020, it was reported that Corey Burton will reprise his role from the series as the voice of Zipper.[5] Througth initial reports said that Burton would return as the voice of Dale as well, it was announced in December 2020, that Andy Samberg will provide the voice for the character. The same day, John Mulaney was announced to be voicing Chip, and Seth Rogen was announced to be making a cameo in the film.[2]
Filming[]
Principal photography commenced on March 16, 2021 in Los Angeles with Larry Fong as cinematographer.[8][9][10]
Release[]
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is planned to be released as a Disney+ exclusive film in early 2022.[2][8][11]
