Chittagong Boat Club is a boat club in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Since 1986 it has provided several facilities for the elite to enjoy the club facilities including aquatic sports as an offshore tourist spot.[2]

CBC is located on 2.1 acres (0.85 ha) of land beside Bangladesh Marine Academy Jetty at East Patenga. The Bangladesh Navy leased the land from the Chittagong Port Authority. Besides the Karnaphuli river on the East and Khal No–11 on the north, Shah Amanat International Airport on the south-west and Bangladesh Air Force Zahur on the west.[3]

The CBC was first conceived by Late Rear Admiral Sultan Ahmed, the then Chief of naval staff of Bangladesh Navy. The initial idea was to develop a Club to facilitates elites of Maritime Agencies, Civil Industries, Bureaucrats and Military services with the normal Club facilities including aquatic sports. In 1986, it was registered in the Joint Stock Companies Act. The club was inaugurated by former Chief of Naval Staff Sultan Ahmed on 8 August in 1990.[3] In 2012, Chittagong Boat Club bought a river cruise ship from Western Marine Shipyard.[4][5]

Governing body[]

The Chief of Bangladesh Naval Staff would be the President of the club, and then Commodore Commanding Bangladesh Navy Flotilla (COMBAN) would be the vice-president and later Commodore Commanding Chittagong (COMCHIT) took over the duty of Vice President for the club governing body as per Article of Association and Memorandum of Understanding 1913. Alongside 17 members from the Civil Elites and Military Officers formed the Management Committee called "The Committee".[3]
