Creed III is an upcoming American sports drama film directed by Michael B. Jordan (in his directorial debut), from a screenplay by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin, and based on a story outline by Ryan Coogler. A sequel to Creed (2015) and Creed II (2018) and the ninth installment in the Rocky franchise, it will star Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, and Jonathan Majors. It will be the first film in the franchise without Sylvester Stallone as Rocky, though he still serves as a producer. The film is scheduled to be released on November 23, 2022 by United Artists Releasing in the United States and Warner Bros. Pictures worldwide.

In December 2018, Sylvester Stallone expressed interest in Deontay Wilder playing the son of Clubber Lang in a potential Creed III, a plot point to which Michael B. Jordan agreed to, were a sequel to be made.[1] Stallone and Jordan expressed mutual interest in such a character featuring in the plot of the next installment, while Stallone stated that he wouldn't oppose the casting choice.[2] In September 2019, Jordan confirmed that Creed III was officially in active development.[3]

Pre-production[]

In February 2020, Zach Baylin was announced as screenwriter, with Jordan confirmed to reprise his role as Adonis Creed.[4] In October 2020, it was reported that, in addition to reprising his role of Adonis Creed, Jordan would also direct Creed III, serving as his directorial debut.[5][6][7] Producers expressed interest in having Jordan serve as director, with Irwin Winkler stating that he had personally offered the position to the actor.[8] In April 2021, Stallone announced he will not appear as Rocky Balboa in the film.[9] By June 2021, Jonathan Majors entered talks to portray Adonis' adversary.[10] In November 2021, it was officially confirmed that Majors would appear in the film.[11]

Principal photography began in late January 2022, with Jordan being spotted on the film's set in Atlanta, Georgia.[12]

Release[]

Creed III is scheduled to be theatrically released on November 23, 2022, by United Artists Releasing in the United States and Warner Bros. Pictures worldwide.[13]
