Abhinav Bastakoti[1] (born December 5, 1999[2]), known by his stage name Curtis Waters, is a Canadian musician and songwriter. Raised primarily in Germany and Canada, he is presently based in Cary, North Carolina, and is known for his 2020 debut single "Stunnin'" featuring Harm Franklin.[3][4][5][6] His debut studio album, Pity Party, was released in October 2020.[7]

Early life[]

Waters was born in Kathmandu, Nepal on December 5, 1999.[8] He moved to India at a young age,[6] before moving to Germany at age four and then relocating to Calgary, Alberta at age ten.[8][6][9] Bastakoti settled in Cary, North Carolina in 2017 at age seventeen.[1][6] Prior to being signed by BMG, Waters was employed at Tropical Smoothie Cafe and a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.[10] Waters has been open about his experience with bipolar disorder and has expressed his desire to be a mental health advocate in Nepal.[10] His stage name originated as an homage to two of his favourite artists: Ian Curtis and Frank Ocean.[1]
