DalesBus is a registered brand of a network of weekend bus services managed by Dales and Bowland Community Interest Company[1] which is a subsidiary of the Yorkshire Dales Society.[2]

In 2018, the service was expanded.[3] Most buses run on weekends and bank holiday Mondays, [4] from Easter Sunday until late summer.[5]

Some buses in the Dales run all year round. Most are operated by low floor easy access vehicles. The services are provided by a number of operators linking major centres of population with the Yorkshire Dales to allow for walking or enjoyment without the need for a car.

The services are funded by numerous organisations, including West Yorkshire Metro, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Sustainable Development Fund and the National Trust. Support is also offered with funding from the Friends of DalesBus, Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line, the Yorkshire Dales Society, Forest of Bowland AONB, TransPennine Express and several other organisations. These popular services carry increasing numbers of passengers, over 30,000 per year.[6] In 2015 North Yorkshire County Council withdrew English National Concessionary Travel Scheme payments for some of these services regarding them as only for "tourist" use and outside statutory provision.

DalesBus Ramblers[]

Dalesbus Ramblers organise a varied programme of free guided walks in the Yorkshire Dales. All the walks are accessible by bus or train, and are open to the general public.[9]

In popular culture[]

In August 2016, route 830 operated by Arriva North East from Richmond to Ingleton, was the subject of an episode of television series BBC Four Goes Slow entitled The Country Bus with a series record average audience of 800,000.[10][11]
