Until 1990, Dhayari was a small village and its economy was based upon farming.[citation needed] It is suited for agriculture, having a catchment area in western hills that brought good soil as well as sufficient water for farming.[citation needed] It was one of the sheep migration stops from Konkan to inland area due to the nearby rivers and creeks.[citation needed] Two historical temples are there in Dhayarigaon, first one is Dhareshwar Mandir and second is Kalbhairav Mandir. Dhareshwar is one of the name of lord shiva. Due to this Shiv temple the name of place Dhayari is borne. One another nearby temple is on hill place near Dhayari, known as Kalubai temple. All these 3 temple have there independent Jatra on different time period.
Dhayari is a suburb of Pune. The Dhareshwar temple of Shiva is the gram daivat and quite known in the locality. It is called a jagrut daiwat. The story of the origin of this temple as told by locals is that a devotee of shiva, Jaytuji baba, once after a long walking journey from 100miles away, rested at the place of Dhayari temple. On his resting here a swayambhu shiv ling appeared from the prayers of Jaytuji baba. This temple is said to be 250-300 years old.
The house of Jaytuji baba’s is at a walking distance from Dhareshwar temple and is located opposite Vithal Rukmini Temple, it is protected all these years by the locals.
The other legend is 7 Mahadevs which are located near the Maruti Mandir. These 7 swayambhu shiva lingas are all located slightly under the ground level - the story goes that Jaytuji baba who was a Shiva Parvati Bhakta wanted to take samadhi and everytime he dug up the ground a shiv ling wud appear, finally he just sat on the floor between these shiva lingas and prayed for samadhi.
