Ekattor (Bengali: একাত্তর; lit. 'seventy-one', in reference to the 1971 War)[1] is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language news television channel owned by the Meghna Group of Industries.[2] It was launched on 21 June 2012 by former chairman, Fazlul Haque Khan.[3][4][5] The channel broadcasts from its headquarters in the Sohrawardi Avenue of Baridhara. Ekattor is the first full HD news channel in Bangladesh. The channel's slogan is "Sangbad Noy Songjog".
Controversies[]
Ekattor broadcast a news report in which the conversation was aired that contempt against the court.[clarification needed][6][7][8][9] In 2017, Ekattor's website was hacked by Islamists who demanded "atheist media" to halt all "anti-Islam" activities.[10] Ekattor was accused of airing "anti-social" news reports and Nurul Haq Nur even called for boycott of the channel in 2020. Bangladeshi Islamic scholars, such as Mizanur Rahman Azhari, also called for boycott of Ekattor as it was accused for airing anti-Islam content.[11][12]
